The joint CyberWater (Kybervesi) project between Savonia’s Water Safety research area and DigiCenter has been launched. The project begins with mapping and upgrading the ICT infrastructure of the WaterLAB test environment, enabling the laboratory to support the development and testing of cybersecurity solutions for water systems.

Water services are part of critical infrastructure and are increasingly targeted by cyber threats. In the future, WaterLAB will provide a platform for identifying, preventing, and mitigating these threats, as well as for testing related solutions safely.

The project aims to strengthen the capabilities of the Savilahti water expertise hub in cybersecurity. The test environment will enable, for example, simulation of cyberattacks on water systems and training for water sector professionals.

At the same time, the CyberWater project creates new collaboration opportunities between the water and ICT sectors, inviting companies and research organisations to join the development work. Is your company interested? Get in touch!

The CyberWater project (1.4.2026–31.3.2028) supports the City of Kuopio’s ecosystem agreement, particularly under the Smart Water Systems theme. The project is co-funded by the EU (Uudistuva ja osaava Suomi 2021–2027).
